Smith Woodhouse Port

Smith Woodhouse Port

In 1784, Christopher Smith, a wine merchant who later became Lord Mayor of London, opened offices in Oporto to trade in Port.  After his death in 1835, the Woodhouse brothers of Bath joined his sons in the business, and Smith Woodhouse was founded.  In 1970, the Symington family acquired Smith Woodhouse (where some of their ancestors had worked in the mid 19th Century) and today the wines enjoy an enviable reputation for excellent quality at a reasonable price.
