![]() Fells was founded in 1858 and is now one of the leading independent importers of fine wines and spirits in the UK. In 2006 Fells was voted Importer of the Year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
Some thirty years ago the company was acquired by the Symington family, owners of four of the most famous Port houses, Graham, Dow, Warre and Smith Woodhouse. These four prestigious brands now form the cornerstone of the Fells portfolio together with the Blandy and Cossart Gordon Madeira brands and the superb Douro Quinta do Vesuvio. To complement the very strong market position established with Port and Madeira, Fells set out to acquire the distribution rights for a number of equally prestigious and family-owned wine producers. The first major agency agreement was that of Miguel Torres, with his excellent range of high quality wines from Penedes and Chile. As part of this agreement the Torres family acquired a minority shareholding in Fells. Torres was quickly followed by the superb Rhone wines of E. Guigal and subsequently, two of the finest producers in Burgundy - Bouchard Père et Fils in the Cote d’Or and William Fèvre in Chablis. Both these houses are owned by the Henriot family. In 2004, the Baron Philippe de Rothschild company, owners of Château Mouton Rothschild, appointed Fells as its UK agent for all its Bordeaux, Pays d’Oc and Chilean wines together with the celebrated Opus One from California. The latest addition to this impressive portfolio was Kendall Jackson in 2006. A large and hugely successful family owned company that is focused on making the finest wines possible from the very best vineyards in California. In conjunction with its wine agencies, Fells has developed a very successful business designing and producing alcohol-related Gift Packs. Trading under the name of Vintage Marque this operation has grown to become the market leader in its field. Fells’ objective is to develop its brands in all sectors of the UK trade, taking great care to enhance the image of each agency and to meet the brand owners aspirations. All these agencies are described in our website with links to more detailed sites maintained by the brand owners themselves. |
